Omeprazole is from the family of proton pump inhibitors (PPI's) that blocks secretion of acid and assists by reducing and neutralizing acid in the horse's stomach allowing improved healing of existing ulcer damage. The presence of a probiotic helps restore natural intestinal flora, leading to more rapid recovery and better nutrient absorption.
For treatment and prevention of equine gastric ulcer syndrome (EGUS) in horses.
Omeprazole, the active ingredient in AbPrazole Plus™, recommended treatment dosage of 4.0mg/kg 1.8mg/kg (0.9mg/lb) of horses bodyweight, and a recommended prevention dosage of 2.0mg/kg (0-9mg/lb) of horsesbodyweight.
Recommended dosage is 4.0 mg/kg (1.8 mg/lb) per day.
- Use one (1) scoop per 175 kg (385 lb) of your horses bodyweight, once daily for 28 consecutive days
Recommended dosage is 2.0 mg/kg (0.9 mg/lb) per day.
- Use one (1) scoop per 350 kg (770 lb) of your horses bodyweight, once daily, ongoing as required.
Simply sprinkle AbPrazole Plus™ dry onto feed. For fussy eaters mix with molasses or corn syrup then mix with feed, apple or a treat.
Massive overdosage is required to cause problems in other species but the toxic dosage in horses is uncertain. Rats have tolerated oral doses no greater than 40mg/kg, this would be equivalent to ten times of 100% product fed to a horse at one time. Should a massive overdose occur, treat symptomatically and supportively.
Omeprazole like other PPI's is well tolerated. Nervousness, abnormal heartbeat, muscle pain, weakness, leg cramps and water retention occur infrequently.
