COMPOSITION

Phenylbutazone BP … 1.0g

(As film coated tablets)


DESCRIPTION

AbButazone™ is a non-steroidal, analgesic agent with anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs) and antipyretic activity, in easy to-measure, easy-to-feed, flavourless, bright orange, film coated granules.


INDICATIONS

For the alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders in adult horses.


DOSAGE

Treatment Horses:  400-650kg (880-1433lb)

  • Day 1: (8.8mg/kg bodyweight) - 4 sachets – 2 in morning + 2 in evening
  • Days 2 - 5: (4.4mg/kg bodyweight) - 2 sachets per day


Treatment Ponies: Refer Veterinarian for recommended dosage.

Important: Treatment should not exceed 5 consecutive days.


ADMINISTRATION

Simply sprinkle AbButazone™ onto feed. For fussy eaters mix with molasses or corn syrup then mix with feed, appleor a treat.


OVERDOSAGE

Overdoses of phenylbutazone can cause renal failure, liver injury, bone marrow suppression, and gastric ulceration or perforation. Early signs of toxicity include loss of appetite, and depression.


SIDE EFFECTS

Adverse side effects from overdose or prolonged use can cause gastro intestinal ulcers, kidney damage, oral lesions,and internal hemorrhage, particularly in young, ill, or stressed horses.


INTERACTIONS OR CONTRAINDICATIONS

Phenylbutazone should not be used in combination with vitamin K antagonists, or in horses with known kidney or liver problems.


TOXICITY

Indications of NSAID toxicity include difficulty in food consumption due to oral ulceration and signs of pain when swallowing.


WARNINGS

Phenylbutazone treatment should not exceed 5 consecutive days.

Use cautiously in pregnant or nursing mares.

May mask other symptoms and should not be administered for these purpose unless specifically recommended by a veterinarian.

Do not use on horses intended for human consumption.

Keep out of reach of children.

Veterinary use only.


STORAGE

Store in a cool dry atmosphere away from extreme heat.

Store/Transport at 20º to 30ºC (68º to 86ºF)


DISPOSAL

Dispose of unused product and containers in accordance with guidance from your local waste regulation authority. Dangerous to fish and aquatic life, do not contaminate water ways with the product or usedcontainers.
